Asphalt Repair Process
The Asphalt Repair process begins with an inspection of the pavement surface to determine if the surface is eligible for repair as well as which types of repairs may be needed. Common Asphalt Repairs include:
- Cracking – Cracking in the pavement surface allows water to reach the sublayer. Over time the water will deteriorate the sublayer. Cracks are repaired by filling them with Hot Rubberized Crack Filling that fills the cracks and adheres to the sides, blocking further water infiltration.
- Edge Damage – Damage to the edge of the pavement surface allows water to reach the sublayer. Over time the water will wash away the sublayer, causing the asphalt pavement to crumble. Edge damage is repaired by fixing the damage to the edge of the asphalt, preventing further water infiltration.
- Potholes – Potholes are holes in the asphalt pavement. Over time potholes grow in size and depth, eventually reaching the sublayer. Once potholes have grown to reach the sublayer, water will deteriorate the sublayer, causing further damage to the pavement. Potholes are repaired by filling the holes with new asphalt after creating a stable sublayer.
- Sagging and Low Spots – Sagging and low spots in the pavement surface are commonly caused by overweight loads, water damage to the sublayer, and poor drainage, among other causes. Sagging and low spots are repaired by milling the asphalt surface, installing a new sublayer if necessary, and then paving new asphalt over the sublayer.
- Sunken Pavement – Sunken pavement is commonly caused by inadequate backfilling during the creation of the sublayer, poor drainage, problems with the initial design of the pavement surface, among others. Sunken pavement is repaired by milling the asphalt surface, installing a new sublayer if necessary, and then paving new asphalt over the sublayer.
